In this recording, Harrison discusses the upsides and downsides of searching for jobs in the classified sections of newspapers. While seen as somewhat antiquated by younger generations of tech savvy job seekers, they do still serve as substantial sources for several types of jobs, and in certain types of job markets.
Harrison explains that some of the highest level positions are often advertised in large newspapers in large markets, such as New York or Los Angeles. If you are looking in smaller markets, newspapers are better at finding low-level jobs. All-in-all, Harrison explains that newspaper classified ads cannot be eliminated from your job seeking arsenal. They do continue to serve a function and often can help you locate jobs that are not widely distributed and therefore jobs that there is less competition to get.
Besides explaining the value of finding jobs through newspaper classified ads, Harrison offers a helpful tutorial on how to research and locate every newspaper out there. After participating in this tutorial, you will track down periodicals with jobs listings by the regions of your choosing.
