A former professional performer with extensive experience representing entertainers and casinos, Laraine M.I. Burrell works on intellectual property and entertainment law matters for Harrison Barnes PLC. Ms. Burrell was named a Super Lawyer “Rising Star” for both 2012 and 2014.
Her work includes matters involving trademarks, copyrights, counterfeiting, cybersquatting and civil computer-hacking and fraud claims, rights of privacy and publicity, trade secrets, and domain name management, including drafting licenses and agreements and litigating under ICANN rules in UDRP proceedings.
She has represented Las Vegas resorts, nightclubs and other corporate clients and individuals in state and federal courts and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. She has also represented well-known performers, producers, entertainment venues and other entertainment industry professionals in contract negotiations, SAG agreements, and litigation.
Ms. Burrell helped represent Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in a defamation case against Manny Pacquiao; Catherine Zeta-Jones, in a right of privacy case against a Reno nightclub; and CMG Worldwide/Estate of Marilyn Monroe in a copyright dispute regarding Monroe photographs. She also helped represent MGM, Bellagio, Golden Nugget, Stations Casinos, Landry’s in 100+ cyber squatting and trademark infringement cases generally obtaining $100,000.00+ in judgments.
She was part of the legal team that obtained an eighty-five million dollar settlement against a tribal nation involving breach of contract and other intellectual property violations and she secured an injunction and award of $7,465,768.79 in a counterfeiting case. She helped represent Christopher Homes in obtaining copyright registrations for blueprints for custom-built homes and Deutsche Bank, Barclays, Nationstar Mortgage and HCSB in 60+ foreclosure matters in Nevada and California.
